Before I launch into the 5 Sustainable Stories that Caught My Eye this Week, I’d like to make an official announcement about my sustainable seafood book project, EATING SALMON.

Wild Alaska salmon with Asian Pear Slaw & Avocado Cream

After two, anxiety-filled contract-negotiating months, last week Storey Publishing and I came to an agreement. I am now waiting for my hard copy contract for my book EATING SALMON.

If you aren’t aware of SP and what it offers, here is its mission statement from its website:

“To serve our customers by publishing practical information that encourages personal independence in harmony with the environment.”

Am I in good hands or what?

EATING SALMON is a narrative and recipe quick-guide to show how wild and farmed salmon differ, how to make buying decisions, plus 24 easy-to-prepare recipes.

I will have more details to follow in the next several months about the process and the date of the release, but for now let’s take a peek at those five stories I fell in love with these past several days.

  1. The 2014 UN Climate Summit ended September 23 in NYC. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon asks “Can we rise to the climate change challenge?” Find out his answer and more in his summary.
  2. Are you a glass half-full or glass half-empty kind of climate-change-thinker? Find out who’s thinking what in this GreenBiz piece, “The Audacious Optimism of Climate Week” by Joel Makower.
  3. ISSF changes Pacific Bigeye Tuna rating from green to orange, according to Seafood Source. Do you think Pacific tuna is overfished?
  4. Do you know where your geoduck comes from? And why does one clam cost $100? Modern Farmer digs up the story to give you something to chew on.
  5. What’s new with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch? Check out its updated website and seafood recommendations.
