I had lunch at The Crooked Spoon. It was my first food truck experience, ever. I know that LA has a monstrous food truck scene. So when Orlando got the wheels turning for a food truck scene, I knew it would be a matter of time before I went out and found a fish taco.

My first choice? The Crooked Spoon. Why did I choose this truck first? Well, simple logistics (hubby will love this), it’s parked at E. Colonial & Ferncreek, in my ‘hood. Second, when I found out on Facebook that they’d be serving Fish Tacos, well I had to weigh in, right?

When I arrived, there wasn’t a line, so I had a few minutes to chat up Chef Allie, a CIA bakery & pastry chef. She mentioned her absolute favorite sammie is the Cranberry Turkey. She had me sold, then I ordered Mac ‘n Cheese, came to my senses and ordered the Fish Taco, instead. I say, stick to your guns (sorry, that’s really overdone). Anyway, I did and wasn’t disappointed.

I’d like to add that under most circumstances, I would never, repeat, never post a picture of a half eaten anything, but after I inhaled the first taco and started on the second, I had a fleeting thought (as the taco came to meet my lips) that you might like to see the white, flaky tilapia. So my apologies in advance. Besides, it’s lunch from a food truck.

Each taco had 2 ounces (+-) of grilled, moist tilapia. The braised red cabbage and celery root slaw was sweet and crunchy, the corn tortilla was soft and warm. Yeah, I liked it. A lot.  I only ate two tacos, but I could have eaten all three. It’s enough to share, especially if you eat like a pig you haven’t eaten in days. Which is how I ate this lunch. Oh, the Mac ‘n Cheese? OK, all I can say is…it’s worth the calories, I’ll be cussing myself on my second run of the day later this evening, and I’m going back for the Cranberry Turkey on whole wheat next time around.
