It’s October, and that means it’s National Seafood Month.

It also means it’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

What do the two have in common?

Well, you know that fresh seafood is low in fat and high in protein. And you know that eating the right foods can make you feel better.

Who doesn’t want to feel better?

October is the perfect month to support both seafood and breast cancer awareness.  The weather is cooler, in fact it’s downright cold in some parts of the country this year. The air is crisp and the leaves are changing. October is a spectacular time of year to be outside.

Susan G Komen activities abound around the world. There are many people to meet, support and hug.

According to its site, “The story of breast cancer is the story of people — and for the month of October, we are honored to share stories of compassion, determination, triumph, despair and optimism through the eyes of breast cancer survivors, the people who love them, and the people helping them every day.”

Seafood festivals are plentiful up and down the east and west coast. There are many places to go, people to meet and, well, hug.

Yes, seafood-lovers like hugs, too.

According to NOAA and the Office of Sustainable Fisheries, “Seafood is a healthy food choice for people of all ages. It provides key nutrients and healthy protein for everyone from infants to adults. Seafood supplies  the nutrients essential for building strong bones, brain development, and healthy immune and cardiovascular systems.”

Go ahead, do your part. Support both National Seafood Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hug someone you support, whether it’s your local fisherman, or someone with breast cancer.

Check out these seafood festivals, get involved with Susan G Komen, and wear something pink.
