5 Spice Cod Hawkers Asian Street Fare

Do you need an imminent deadline looming over your head to get things done?
Me? I’m usually very motivated, but there are times when I procrastinate. Like eating at a new restaurant. I’ve found that if I go to early, then I’m disappointed, so I tend to wait.
But I had a deadline. It was August 31st. It was my last day living in Orlando. I was moving to Madisonville, Kentucky.
What?
Yes, I now live in a tiny town in the middle of the country. But I’ll save those details for another day.
Today, I want to write about eating for the first and last time at Hawkers Asian Street Fare.
Elvis and I committed to moving in a month. Seems like enough time, right?
Except that I needed to eat in a few restaurants before I left Orlando. I ate at all my fav’s, like Luma On Park, Sushi Pop, The Ravenous Pig, Aroma and Hue. But I hadn’t eaten at the new kid on the block in downtown Orlando, Hawkers Asian Street Fare.
I ate there the first time on August 27th. My good friend, Donna and I needed nourishment and a well deserved break from arranging, staging & tagging my garage sale junk.
First up, its clean, light and airy, quite the difference from its former days of the other establishment. If you’ve been, then you know what I mean. If you haven’t, no worries, let me just mention that it wasn’t light and airy.
Second, the service was friendly and fast. Yes, it’s true. In Orlando.
Lastly, the food: fresh, hot and affordable. Donna and I shared; Hawkers menu is Tapas-style. 5 Spice Cod, Green Papaya Salad, Duck tacos, Roti with curry sauce and a glass of chardonnay (we worked up an appetite). All of that adds up to a Facebook double-like in my book.

The second and last time I went to Hawkers, I went to meet the Central Florida Bloggers, an event arranged by Julie at the little kitchen.
I ordered Duck noodles and the 5 Spice Cod. Again, fresh, hot, fast, affordable.
I left in such a hurry, (I had to pick up Elvis at the airport), that I forgot my credit card.
Thankfully, Sunni of Toomey Studios, Julie at the little kitchen and Twitter pulled through. By the time I got home and checked-in online (1 1/2 hrs later), I had a tweet from Julie and Sunni was in my ‘hood with my card.
I’m dedicating a recipe to Sunni and Julie. Check back for my recipe. It’ll be blended with kindness, thanks and appreciation.
Don’t wait for that deadline to loom over your head. Get over to Hawkers Asian Street Fare, or maybe you’re a repeat customer. I know I would be. Either way order the 5 Spice Cod for me. And don’t forget to ‘Like” them on Facebook, you won’t be disappointed.
