Today celebrates the first Friday of Lent in 2013.
For millions of people around the world, that means eating fish on Friday’s, unlike the brown pelican who eats fish every day.
There are seven Friday’s in Lent where fish is the star of the plate.
That’s great news.
But it’s no secret the world’s oceans and fisheries are in trouble. With over eighty-seven percent of the stocks fully or over-exploited, we can’t ignore this problem.
Which fish species should you eat this Lent season?
To help you make responsible, i.e. sustainable seafood choices, I’ll post a recipe every Friday using only sustainable seafood.
Since not all of us live near a body of water, I’ll offer one recipe and two choices of fish. One fresh, one frozen.
Together, we can support American fishermen and the world’s fisheries. We can celebrate your personal freedom and right to choose and eat responsible fish.
Happy Lent.
