I know, I know, this isn’t your typical SLO blog post about seafood.
In fact, it doesn’t have anything to do with seafood.
However, it’s National Poetry Month. In honor of my neice, Sarah Marie Fiore, an Honors student at Penn State Greater Allegheny, I’m posting her recently published poems. These poems (and several others) were published by Absence Magazine. Here are a few of my fav’s!
Thanks, Sarah.
Fairytales are Real
Butterflies and nerves, fairytales come alive
I see enchantment when I look into your eyes
We may not live in a kingdom
Or have crowns upon our heads
But you are more of a dream come true
Than in those stories I have read
You make me believe in magic
And in soul mates alike
Even on the darkest days
Our love will always find its way
And just when I’m like a damsel in distress
You are my knight in shining armor, saving me again
Sometimes I have to pinch myself
To make sure it’s not all just a dream
And when I realize that we are not in a castle and we are simply in your room
It makes my heart yearn more with love knowing that I get to have you
Where is true love?
You can find it in the corner, crumbled up with dust
You can find it under the staircase, where things all seem to rust
You can find it on your worst day, when nothing seems just right
You can find it in the darkest place, where there seems to be no light
You can find it when you’re dirt poor, you can’t even spare a dime
You can find it anywhere, any day, any time
You will find it in the palm of your hand, right where I place mine
You will find it deep in my eyes, and that you cannot decline
You will find it in the beat of my heart, when your head is upon my chest
You will find it right beside you, for every day I will attest
You will find it in the hard times; I will never lead you astray
True love is unconditional and it will always find its way
Your Rock
When the world takes its toll
And brings its weight upon you
Just rest your head on my shoulder
You will become bolder
You have been there for me
Through everything and more
I will be the rock that you need
When you cannot proceed
Just as you have been mine
Almost every day of the week
You are my man, my hero, my warrior, and more
But when your world becomes colder
Rest your head on my shoulder
